{"id":11807,"date":"2025-11-12T01:45:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T00:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sedanoc.rwdesarrollos2.es\/actualidad\/the-government-declares-2026-the-year-of-occupational-safety-and-health\/"},"modified":"2025-11-12T01:45:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T00:45:00","slug":"the-government-declares-2026-the-year-of-occupational-safety-and-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sedanoc.rwdesarrollos2.es\/en\/actualidad\/the-government-declares-2026-the-year-of-occupational-safety-and-health\/","title":{"rendered":"THE GOVERNMENT DECLARES 2026 THE YEAR OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><b><i>On the thirtieth anniversary of the Occupational Risk Prevention Law<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b><i>The Council of Ministers has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy, the institutional declaration on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the approval of Law 31\/1995, of November 8, and by which the year 2026 is declared as the &laquo;Year of occupational safety and health&raquo;<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Prevention Law represented a historic milestone and served as a benchmark to lay the foundations for a culture of prevention in our country. Now, on this anniversary, it is not a matter of making a mere declaration of intent but of making an appeal to society as a whole.<\/p>\n<h3><b>SILENT EPIDEMIC<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Workplace accident data are still unacceptable: 796 people, more than two every day, died in 2024 at their workplace or on their commute. It is necessary to act decisively and without delay.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Constitution entrusts public authorities, as one of the guiding principles of social and economic policy, with the obligation to &laquo;ensure safety and hygiene at work&raquo;, a place where people cannot risk their health or gamble with their lives, regardless of where the company is located or the number of people it has.<\/p>\n<p><b>On numerous occasions, economic growth has been linked to an increase in workplace accidents, but it is not an inevitable evil: there is a direct relationship between precariousness and increased occupational risks, and this statement is supported by the<\/b> <b>data. Thanks to the labor reform, which provided a boost to employment stability, it allowed the accident rate resulting in sick leave to drop by 7.4% and across all age groups.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>NECESSARY PROGRESS<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>New forms of employment confront us with challenges hitherto ignored, such as the increase in psychosocial risks, the lack of full effective equality between men and women \u2014whose pathologies and needs in terms of prevention have been largely forgotten\u2014, work-related illnesses or the aging of the active population at a critical demographic moment, and those derived from a climate change whose virulent consequences we are already suffering. One cannot forget, as one year has passed, the effects of the DANA that claimed the lives of 229 people and which required bold labor measures such as climate leave that protects working people in the face of adverse weather scenarios.<\/p>\n<h3><b>INSTRUMENTS<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>The Spanish Strategy for Health and Safety at Work 2023-2027 (EESST), approved in the Council of Ministers on March 14, 2023 with the agreement of Autonomous Communities, trade unions, and business organizations, constitutes a new framework of reference to guide actions regarding occupational risk prevention during this period and arises thanks to social dialogue, the fruit of the agreement between the different Public Administrations with competencies in occupational safety and health and the social partners.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The EESST takes a firm commitment to the priority axes of the European Strategic Framework for Health and Safety at Work 2021-2027 and, in particular, to the objective of anticipating the risks posed by the digital, ecological, and demographic transitions.<\/p>\n<p><b>An example of this are the campaigns that the Ministry of Health, the State Labour and Social Security Inspectorate, and the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work carry out annually to prevent heat strokes. Also for the first time, our country carried out a shock plan against<\/b> <b>fatal accidents that focused on those sectors most exposed to them, with special attention to construction where fatal workplace accident rates have a major impact.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To face the challenge of climate change, Spain has also moved forward with the adaptation in the year 2023 of Spanish regulations on workplaces, expressly including the business obligation to adopt protective measures against adverse weather phenomena. In November 2024, a further step was taken, recognizing labor leave as a consequence of recommendations, limitations, or prohibitions on travel established by the competent authorities, as well as when a serious and imminent risk situation occurs, including those derived from a catastrophe or adverse weather phenomenon.
