All autonomous communities have fewer unemployed people than in the month of March.
There are fewer unemployed people, both women, who mark their lowest level since September 2008, and men.
The unemployment coverage rate in the month of March was 78.8%, the highest in that month since 2010.
The number of registered unemployed people in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of April fell by 62,668 people (-2.59%) compared to the previous month.
Registered unemployment stood at 2,357,044 people, dropping below the 2.4 million mark for the first time since June 2008, in a context where historical occupation records are being broken.
Year-on-year unemployment has decreased by 155,674 people (-6.2%).
There is also a reduction in seasonally adjusted terms of 11,256 people.
UNEMPLOYMENT BY SECTORS
Registered unemployment decreases in all economic sectors compared to March: in Services by 46,156 people (-2.62%), in Industry by 3,680 people (-1.98%), in Construction by 3,603 people (-2.17%), and in Agriculture by 2,272 (-3.05%). It also decreased among the Group Without Previous Employment by 6,957 (-3.04%).
UNEMPLOYMENT BY SEX AND AGE
Female unemployment stands at 1,424,426 women, the lowest figure since September 2008, decreasing by 34,146 women (-2.34%) compared to the month of March.
Male unemployment stands at 932,618, decreasing by 28,522 people (-2.97%).
If compared to April 2025, male unemployment drops by 64,631 (-6.48%) and female unemployment falls by 91,206 (-6.01%).
Regarding behavior by age, unemployment among young people under 25 fell in April by 19,284 people (-10.20%) compared to the previous month. It marks its historical minimum, for the first time below the threshold of 170,000 young people, with a total of 169,693 unemployed under 25.
UNEMPLOYMENT BY AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES
In absolute terms, unemployment drops in all autonomous communities, with Andalusia (-22,393 people), Catalonia (-8,949 people), and the Community of Madrid (-6,249 people) in the lead.
NEW CONTRACTS
The total number of contracts registered during the month of April was 1,258,296. Of this total, 543,543 employment contracts are permanent, representing 43.2%.
UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS IN MARCH
The beneficiaries existing at the end of March totaled 1,777,568. The coverage rate of the system stood at 78.77%. This is the highest for a month of March since 2010.
The average monthly expenditure per beneficiary, excluding the agricultural subsidy of Andalusia and Extremadura, in the month of March 2026 was 1,608 euros, representing an increase over the same month of the previous year of 293 euros (22.3%).
Total investment in benefits in March amounted to 2,141.6 million euros.
